Rural Oklahoma is key to the state’s agricultural and production ecosystems. Communication systems in the modern age must support these rural ecosystems in order for them to continue feeding and powering Oklahoma and the nation. This edition of OSU Research on Tap will feature Vice President Sewell interviewing Dr. Audrey King, whose research reveals the rich communication landscape of Oklahoma’s rural communities. Through studies on rural youth using photovoice, media portrayals of rural life, Facebook as a community tool, and perceptions of agritourism, she has gained insights into how rural voices shape and are shaped by their environments. Grounded in digital media and community engagement, this research brings to light the communication tools, preferences and narratives that define rural Oklahoma.
